2013 Polly Prize for Creative Writing
Meet our 2013 Winner, Franciska Shaw
The recipient of the 2013 Junior Authors Prize for Excellence in Creative Writing was Franciska Shaw. This contest is now called the Polly Prize for Creative Writing and is open to writers under the age of 22, worldwide.
This high-achieving Vancouver grad is on her way to McGill to study biomedical sciences. Her teachers say that she is a dynamic student with a passion and talent for acting and creative writing who, “embraces and upholds all that is exceptional about today’s youth.”
Franciska journals every day. In the photo she holds up her short story called “Jim” which she is really proud of and enjoyed writing.
About the 2013 Prize
In 2013, this prize was administered by the faculty at Magee Secondary School in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and awarded to a graduating student during the school’s spring commencement ceremony. This is the high school from which, Laura Thomas, the prize donor, graduated in 1986. The prize is $250 and a VIP ticket to the Junior Authors Writers Conference. The criteria include academic excellence, a great attitude, and a passion for the arts, especially creative writing.
