Writing: The activity or skill of marking coherent words on paper and composing text.

I know what you must be thinking, 139 million definitions, articles, blogs, notes, websites, reports, scripts, journals (breath) all based on the word ‘”writing.”  That’s a lot right? But think about it. Writing has no definition. Words itself are just words which create sentences. Writing is formed within you; everyone has different ways to express what writing means to them and how they implement it.

For me writing isn’t just words scribbled onto paper, it’s the essence, the ambiance, the connotations. I believe words can be used beautifully to describe particular feelings, meanings, discourses, and denotations.

The practice of letters is taught to us from a young age when we mundanely chant the vowels “A, E, I, O, U.” However, as we grow, we come across a vast vocabulary and consciously (and unconsciously) pick up words we never knew existed. And that’s the beauty of it.

My English teacher thankfully kept pestering me to read. And I now realize why. I grasped the extraordinary sense of how real sentences were put together to tell a story in a book. I began to pay attention to television programs, focusing on what they were actually saying rather than just watching them. I gave the newspaper a chance and saw how articles differed from novels. I realized how blogs were in first person and in a talkative mode of address. I researched how scripts were formatted.

Reading and researching different types of writing is the best way to explore and learn how text is formed. Before, I struggled to even write 50 words. Now 300 words is not enough!
