Writing: I Am Going to Say It

by Laura Baliman, Age 13, UK

Some people may not be fulfilled by reading a story because they think stories are merely letters on a blank page. But, when you read a page, and read it well, there is so much that can be brought alive, so much that can be born into our own world through words.

I love writing because I am creating and imagining and discovering. Every second a new word enters a new sentence which is born into my world and I love that! I write about everything and anything I can: events, thoughts and day-dreams. These things form and get twisted into words, and when I get them right the event is so vivid in my head that it pounds and pounds and I am alive! Life is no longer just the graceful monotony of time passing away when I write. It is vivid!

Writing means different things to different people. To some it may only be a compulsory, arduous task that has to be completed for the sake of homework. But for me, writing is also about dreams. I don’t just kind of want to be a writer someday; I will be a writer, and I am a writer.

It is my passion for writing that justifies my life. I write so that I can fulfill my dream of being a writer and fulfill whatever else inside me that needs to be fulfilled. I want to be a writer so that I can touch the world and be heard. I have so much to say, and I’m going to say it.

It’s so inspiring to see young writers who are really enthusiastic about what they do; hopefully you’re the first of many “new wave” writers to come. Keep up the good work!

I know laura, you have a valid point, I find it difficult when I get set english assighnments, I don’t want to have to finish a peace of writing if I don’t want to, I think that’s the great thing about writing, it gives you a sense of freedom that you can’t get any where else in life. Also, I find that if I write things then they can be understood, that is why writing is so important in my life, and that’s why I think authors must be so clever, because they write about such a variety of things that they will understand after writing books, good luck in your journey to becoming a writer. After all, I know you from school and I’m pretty sure you will become a writer in the end :)
