Junior Authors Short Story Contest
The contest ran from 2008 – 2015 and is no longer going to be offered due to declining interest.
jaBlog! LTC’s literary blog is accepting original short stories up to 1,500 words until June 15, 2016. Please consider submitting your original writing to the blog. We respond to all submissions.
Again, due to declining interest and lack of financial support, jaBlog! will run its final issue in July of 2016.
Hi, Laura. Is the drama script competition cancelled or still going?
As of midnight June 15th, we are no longer accepting submissions.
Is there any other way to get short stories out into the world for a wannabe author like me
Hi Michael. You can try submitting to my literary blog for young authors, jaBlog! We have one final call for short stories under 1,500 words and a prompt of the month for the July issue. Deadline is June 15th. Be sure to read the submission guidelines before submitting. Otherwise, you’ll have to do your homework and find publications that accept unsolicited short story manuscripts on the subjects you like to write about. If you want to get up to speed quickly on the business of getting published, including self-pub, check out my newest workbook. It’s in my store and costs $4. Cheap, but packed with info you need to know.
The contest sounds interesting. Perhaps you should consider bringing it back next year.
Hi Patra. I won’t be bringing it back. We have had a good run, but interest has declined and keeping it free is no longer possible.
DEAR MADAM,
I AM 46+ AND FROM INDIA. MAY I SUBMIT ANY WRITING IN THIS CONTEST.

No. This contest is no longer being offered, and you are over 21 years old.
are there any competitions for story writing in April?
Not at LTC, but you are welcome to submit to jaBlog! any time.
So..is the short story competition cancelled or is it still going?
It’s cancelled, Justin. But you can submit a short story to jaBlog! The word limit is higher…1,500.
Thanks for the reply, I will try
Hi! I have many questions but, where do i submit my story and how would i know if i won
Hi Shana. The short story contest has been cancelled. My last contest is the poetry contest which is on now until the end of the month.
Umm excuse me but… What if we write lemons or r-16 or r 18 fanfictions? Is it banned? XD just asking because a bunch of friends ofine are planning on it. If not its okay.
Hi Marla. The Junior Authors Short Story Contest is the wrong venue for that type of writing.
Understood
I am thinking about entering this contest, as I have been searching for a good writing contest that one of my existing stories can go into. When I write, it’s usually because I get an idea or an inspiration. The problem is, my writing is really wordy so all of my stories are longer than 1,000 words. I wish that a good writing contest, like this one, would have a larger word limit. That’s the only thing I want in any writing contest!
Hi Grace. Consider for a moment how much time and energy it takes to read hundreds of stories. I think I am being very generous by allowing the word count to be so high when there is no entry fee. If you want to submit a longer story consider submitting a piece to jaBlog! We now accept original short stories up to 1,500 words. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Hello, I was just wondering does the content have restrictions. For example is it not allowed to put violence (to a certain extent) in the story.
Hi Ben. I don’t have any specific restrictions on subject matter. But I do expect that anyone entering this contest realizes that LTC is a website for young writers. And no matter what content you include in your story (violent or not) your piece will be judged on how well it is written.
Thanks for the reply!
